Pain-Pleasure Principle

Pain and pleasure:

Everything we do in a day, is done with a motive to either avoid pain or fulfil the desire of pleasure. In the long run, pain is good and pleasure being a short term desire, is obviously bad. Our subconscious mind is well aware of this. Problem is, our conscious mind that actively controls our movements, thoughts, words isn’t self-aware. Recent studies conducted shows that dopamine is a common neurobiological chemical that is prevalent in both circumstances.

This is what the most famous Austrian neurologist, Sigmund Freud had developed the 3P - Pain Pleasure principle. The pain pleasure principle says that people make decisions that avoid or decrease pain and also create or increase pleasure. Our life choices are entirely based upon this principle. Every action, thought, core beliefs, value system all are based on this principle. Since we humans always love to reward ourselves, we choose pleasure over anything. Choosing pleasure means rewarding ourselves with a sense of gratification.

In simple words, a harmonious person who absolutely hates conflicts, may face a situation to resolve a conflict. This person finds conflict to be uncomfortable and painful. Hence, they will do anything to avoid this situation. Let alone solving the situation.

These diagrams will show how our mind manipulates us. Chances are that most likely you know what’s being shown in the diagram but you are not able to teach it to your conscious mind, at all.

It’s all a mind game but we fail to teach it to our conscious mind. If our conscious mind would’ve understood then there wouldn’t be a single person procrastinating to do their homework, to hesitate to go to the gym or to get their work done. Our mind always seeks comfort. Any little ting of discomfort, it’ll play with you. But your mind is just the medium that’s controlling all of the biological mechanics in your body.

You should disassociate from your mind. You should be the one in charge.
