Survival of the fittest in the fast-paced environment

Today we have reformed into a rapidly growing environment where there is no time, space and energy to do things on our own way. It is competitive, advanced and all of this is never ending. With respect to the education system, the same applies. Lots of research conducted by several universities and prominent organizations have shown the results.

One in five children and adolescents, according to the Association for Children's Mental Health (ACMH), suffer from a diagnosable emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorder. These are the people on whom society as a whole should place a greater emphasis when handling their emotions delicately.

Some of the most common mental health issues affecting school children are Anxiety Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), eating disorders

and Mood Disorders. In regard to the economic scale of such affected people, three main themes emerged to explain how having a mentally ill child interfered with the families' ability to pursue economic activities. These were the following: pre-existing poverty, disruption of various income-generating activities, and additional expenses brought on by the illness.

The mental health of many students has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. In a survey conducted in May 2020, seven out of ten teenagers admitted to having mental health issues; 61 percent said their feelings of loneliness had grown; 43 percent said they had experienced depression, and 55 percent said they had experienced anxiety. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 9% of high school students have made an attempt at suicide and nearly 20% have had serious suicidal thoughts.

Numerous social difficulties have been linked to raising a child who suffers from a mental illness. Parents' top concerns were in the areas of social services, stigma, and parental responsibilities. Other significant issues included a lack of public understanding, social support, and social life.

Building an environment that promotes and protects the mental health of children is crucial in order for society to advance together hence we must make significant progress in this area.
